Claude Code and Codex
ALT has a local MCP server inside. Connect Claude Code or Codex, and they read and change your tasks, projects and notes. You see every change in ALT and can undo it.
Before you start
- ALT is open on your Mac. Its MCP server runs while ALT does, even with the window closed.
- Claude Code or Codex is installed, so the
claudeorcodexcommand works in Terminal.
Connect in three steps
- Turn it on. Open Settings → AI. Under "Claude Code and Codex over MCP", switch on the card for Claude Code or Codex.
- Copy the command. Press Connect over MCP..., pick Claude Code or Codex and press Copy.
- Run it once in Terminal. The command connects ALT for every folder on your Mac, so you don't repeat it per project.
Then start a new session in Claude Code or Codex and ask what's on today, or ask it to add a task. The card in Settings changes from "on, no requests yet" to "connected" with the time of the last request.
Choose what each assistant may do
Claude Code and Codex each have their own card. Both start switched off, with Change off.
- Rights. Read is always on. Turn on Change to let the assistant create and edit.
- Sees. All areas, one area, or one project with the projects inside it. Tasks without a project are visible only with All areas.
If the area or project you picked is deleted or archived, access closes instead of widening to everything. The card asks you to choose again.
What they can do
Read
A day with its planned tasks, time slots and busy time. A week, month or year. Tasks, projects, areas and sections, with estimates and deadlines. Your notes, in full.
Change right away
With Change on: create a task or edit its title, project, section, day, deadline, estimate or notes, and complete it. Create a project, rename it, finish it or bring it back. Create and rename areas, add sections. Create a note or rewrite one.
Wait for your Apply
Several changes at once, time slots on a day, plans for a week or a month, a project's months on the year, and every deletion come to ALT as a proposal. ALT shows what it does to your hours, and nothing changes until you press Apply.
See and undo what they changed
Tasks that Claude Code or Codex adds or moves get a dot, and the list says "You have 1 new task" until you press OK. Each change also shows in the chat with who made it.

Change History keeps the last 7 days of changes from the chat and MCP, and any batch can be undone. Open it from Settings → AI → Change History.
Turn it off
- Switch off the assistant's card in Settings → AI. ALT rejects its requests and tells it why.
- Press New token in Connect over MCP... to cut the old connection. To connect again, copy and run the new command.
The connection is local: ALT answers only apps on this Mac, without our server. But Claude Code and Codex send what they read to Anthropic and OpenAI. To pass on less, let an assistant see one area or one project.
If it doesn't work
- "Unknown token". The token changed. Copy the command again from Settings → AI and run it.
- ALT isn't running. The assistant is told to ask you to open ALT. Open it and repeat the request.
- The card is off. The assistant hears that access is switched off. Switch the card on.
- It can only read. Change is off for that assistant. Turn it on in its card.
