What's new in ALT

Every build, newest first: the same notes ALT shows after an update.

Build 740

  • Windows open at the task New

⌘S, ⇧⌘D, ⇧⌘E and ⇧⌘M open When, Deadline, Estimate and Move right under the task, and Estimate is in its right-click menu too. Move has a search field: start typing a project's name. The bottom bar is gone: a round + in the corner adds a task, and dragged into the list it puts the task where you let go.

  • ⌘R clears a task's date New

⌘R, or Clear Date in the task's menu, takes the day, week and month off the selected tasks, as No date in When does. The deadline stays.

Build 717

  • Ticks and moves without a wait New

Ticking a task, moving it to another day or project and changes from the chat, Claude Code and Codex now take three to five times less time. Closing a task with a renamed title takes half as long.

Build 692

  • New notes from Claude Code and Codex New

Claude Code and Codex connected to ALT can now create a note in a project or an area, not only rewrite one. You see it in the chat and can undo it.

Build 687

  • A clean top of the sidebar Fixed

When you scroll the sidebar, its projects now fade out under the window buttons instead of showing right under them.

Build 683

  • Typing without delay New

Typing a task's name or notes is about five times lighter: letters show up at once, even in a big project. What you type is kept when you pause, close the task or move on.

Build 677

  • Screens switch at once New

Moving between the Inbox, projects, Day, Week, Month and Year is about four times faster: the new screen shows at once, without a fade, as in Things.

Build 671

  • No slowdown from Claude Code's changes Fixed

ALT no longer slows down while Claude Code or Codex make many changes in a row, or when you move tasks yourself. The dots on new tasks show as before.

Build 668

  • A meeting becomes a task New

Click a meeting on the Day and choose Add to Tasks in its card or with a right-click. It stays one block, now with a tick, its hour still counts once, and the task goes to the project you pick for its calendar in Settings → Calendars.

  • The task keeps up with its meeting New

Move, rename or delete the meeting in Calendar or on the Day, and its task follows. When the meeting is over, the task is marked done; Settings → Calendars changes that.

Build 666

  • Drag a task to another part of the day New

On the Day, drag a task without a time slot into Morning, Afternoon or Evening and it takes that part of the day; grouped by projects, into another project. A gap shows where it will stand. While you drag, empty parts of the day show their headings to drop on.

Build 662

  • Feel it land New

A Force Touch trackpad and the iPhone answer with a light tap when a task or block lands in its place, when you check a task, at each quarter of an hour while you move or stretch a block, and when the iPhone's sheet settles at another height.

Build 660

  • See the time before you drop New

Drag a task from the list onto the Day's scale: a dashed block with its name and time, say 18:00-20:00 · 2 h, follows the pointer by quarters of an hour, and the task lands exactly there.

  • Edges show under the pointer New

Hold the pointer over a block on the Day to see its edges that change the time, and over a project's bar on the Year to see the edges that change its months.

Build 658

  • Drag tasks into a new order New

In the Inbox and a project, drag a task up or down: a gap opens where it will land and the others slide apart. The whole row goes under the pointer. ⌘Z puts it back.

  • See where a task goes New

A project or the Inbox in the sidebar, a section, and a week or the tray on the Month get a blue frame while you hold a task over them. In By Projects, a task dropped in another project's group moves to that project.

Build 655

  • A checkbox like in Things New

The box darkens while you press it. Checked, it fills blue, a soft halo spreads around it and the tick draws itself; unchecked, it goes back the same way. With Reduce Motion on, the check simply fades in.

Build 653

  • The chat changes your hours and busy time New

Ask the chat to change the working hours of a weekday or of one date, make a day off, or add, move, rename and delete busy time. The card shows how the hours of the days and the week change before you press Apply.

  • Order, sections, Someday New

The chat puts a task on the morning, afternoon or evening, sends it to Someday, marks a done one as not done, sets a new order of tasks or of projects in the sidebar, and renames or deletes a section - its tasks stay in the project.

  • The chat reads and edits notes New

The chat reads a note when your question needs it, and creates, rewrites and deletes notes. "Show in note" opens the note with the chat's changes in it before you apply them. Every change undoes from the chat or Change History.

Build 649

  • Quick Find follows the pointer New

In Quick Find (⌘F) the result under the pointer becomes the chosen one, as in a Mac menu, and Return opens it. The arrows work as before: a row only takes the choice when the pointer moves.

Build 647

  • Gray selection in a window behind New

When another window or app is in front, the selected task, card, block or sidebar row turns gray instead of blue, as in Things, so you see where your keys will go. Bring ALT back and it is blue again.

Build 644

  • Estimate right on a card New

On the Week and the Month, hold the pointer over a task without an estimate: a gray clock appears where the estimate goes. Click it to set one; the card does not move.

Build 642

  • Buttons answer the pointer New

Small buttons on every screen - the bottom bar, a task's fields, "+" and trash, chevrons, "OK", "Undo", the chat's buttons - show a light fill under the pointer and darken while pressed. Task rows, the sidebar and cards stay calm, as in Things.

  • A tooltip on every icon New

Hold the pointer over an icon button to see what it does. A tag in the Day's filter gets a thin outline; a button that cannot be used now is faded.

Build 636

  • Move meetings on the Day New

Drag a meeting from your calendar to another time or pull its edges - it changes in Calendar too, and Cmd-Z puts it back. A meeting with participants asks first; a repeating one asks whether the next ones move too.

  • Why a meeting stays put New

A meeting you're invited to by someone else, or one from a read-only calendar, shows a small lock and tells you why it can't be moved.

Build 633

  • The chat searches the web New

With an Anthropic key, ask about prices, schedules or news: the chat shows what it is searching for and puts its sources right after the facts. Click a source to open it; the next question uses what was found.

  • Without search, the chat says so New

If a search fails, or the key is OpenRouter's or OpenAI's, the chat answers from what the model knows and says why.

Build 629

  • Lighter lists New

Tasks no longer have a line under each row on the Mac: only group headings keep theirs, as in Things.

Build 624

  • When done tasks leave the list New

Settings → General → "Move done tasks to Completed": Immediately, Daily or Manually, as in Things. A ticked task now stands a moment before it leaves; the Day's plan and the Week's days collect done tasks into "Show completed" and "✓ done" too.

  • Move Done to Completed New

Task → Move Done to Completed (⇧⌘Y) clears what is done from every list at once.

Build 622

  • Both edges of a block New

Drag the top edge of a task or of busy time on the Day to change when it starts; the end stays. While you pull an edge, the block shows its new time.

Build 619

  • The Year by areas New

Projects without a period now stand in their area, under the ones with a period, instead of one long "No Period" list at the bottom. Each area has its heading with a thin line; with one area open there is none.

Build 616

  • Time spent on done tasks New

A completed task now shows the time its slots took, then its estimate: "2.3 h · est. 1 h". In Completed, the Day, the Week and the weekly review; the month's total on iPhone counts that time too.

Build 613

  • The chat changes areas, projects and sections New

Ask it to add an emoji to every project of an area, set up a new area with a project and a section, rename, finish or bring back a project, change notes, or delete a project or an area. Nothing changes before Apply, and Undo brings it all back.

  • Many renames fit in the card New

More than five renames in one area gather into one group with "Show more"; what was not applied comes first, with why.

Build 609

  • The Day fills a tall window New

On a large screen the hours of the Day grow to fill the window, from the first hour of the scale to the last, with no empty space below. In a low window the scale scrolls as before.

Build 602

  • Tasks without a date on the Week New

Under the week's tasks in "No Day" there is now "No date": every task of a project with no day, week or month, by area and project. Open a project and drag a task onto a day or up into the week.

  • Someday New

Put a task off with When → Someday, or drag it onto the "Someday" line at the end of "No date". Tasks you brought from Things' Someday are already there.

  • A week in When New

Pick This Week, Next Week or a week's number in the calendar, or type "next week" or "week 40": the task goes into that week without a day. "No date" takes its day, week and month off.

Build 594

  • Stretch busy time by its edge New

On the Mac, drag the bottom edge of busy time you marked to change its length, as with tasks. A block with another lying on it keeps its edge too: grab it left of the block on top.

  • Type a task's time New

In an open task, the times under Time slots now apply as you type them: the block moves or stretches on the Day.

  • Where all-day events show New

Settings → Calendars now says it: all-day events show above the Day for the calendars turned on. Turn on a calendar of birthdays or holidays to see them - they take none of your hours.

Build 587

  • Ask the chat anything New

Advice, a translation, a recipe: the chat answers to the point, and changes to the plan still come as a card with "Apply". Bold text and lists in its answers show as formatting.

  • The chat lines up with the screen Fixed

The line under the chat's header continues the screen's line on every view.

Build 583

  • Wider days in the Week Fixed

The seven days share the whole width of the window, with nothing empty after Sunday.

  • Long names in three lines New

A task's name on a Week card takes at most three lines; select the card to read it whole.

  • Nothing where there is no estimate Fixed

A task without an estimate shows nothing on the right instead of "- h".

Build 580

  • The Month keeps its header Fixed

A week with many projects scrolls in its own column, so the title, the project cards and the weeks' dates no longer slide under the view switcher.

Build 575

  • Quick Find opens Today, views and sections New

Type "today" for today's Day across all areas, a view name like Week to switch the list's view, or a section name to jump to it in its project.

Build 570

  • Group tasks your way New

Group the List, the plan for the day and the week's tasks without a day by projects, or show them as one list. Each list remembers its choice; the same choices are in View → Group By.

Build 568

  • Quick Find on the Mac New

Press ⌘F or just start typing to find a task, project or area by name. Return opens it; an empty field shows the lists you opened last.

Build 565

  • The chat sees the day's tasks Fixed

On the Day view the chat sees every task of the day, even when the list holds hundreds of tasks.

Build 561

  • A lighter window New

The bar at the top has no glass or shadows now, and the sidebar is a little lighter.

Build 550

  • The chat on iPhone and iPad New

The assistant's chat opens full screen on iPhone and as a panel on the right on iPad, and knows which day, week or project you have open.

  • See the day before you apply New

"Show Friday" on a proposal opens that day with the changes drawn as a dashed draft; nothing changes until you press Apply.

  • Dictate on iPhone New

Tap the microphone and speak; the blue arrow stops and sends, the grey stop leaves the text to edit.

Build 545

  • The Things keys New

⌘K completes, ⌘S sets When, ⌘T moves to today, ⇧⌘D sets a deadline, ⌃] and ⌃[ shift a date by a day, ⇧⌘M moves to another list, ⌘D duplicates.

  • Select several tasks New

⇧↑↓, ⌘A, ⌘-click and ⇧-click select several tasks; every key acts on all of them, and one ⌘Z undoes it.

  • Your own order New

⌘↑ and ⌘↓ move a task within a project's list or the Inbox, and a project within the sidebar.

  • Copy and paste tasks New

⌘C and ⌘V copy tasks to another list, ⌥⌘V moves them, and text pasted with ⌘V becomes a task per line.

Build 541

  • A flat sidebar New

The sidebar runs the full height of the window, flush to its edge, without the floating card - as in Things.

  • Larger, tighter rows New

Lists in the sidebar use larger text and tighter rows, so more of your projects fit on screen.

Build 535

  • A calmer sidebar New

Projects line up under their area as in Things, a nested project one step in, and project rings are a quiet grey instead of the area's color.

Build 531

  • Fold areas in the sidebar New

The chevron next to an area or a parent project folds the projects under it, and a folded area shows what is due and how many tasks are open. ⌘-click folds every area, ⌥⌘-click keeps one open. Folds stay after a relaunch.

  • Arrow keys in the sidebar New

Click a list in the sidebar, then ↑↓ move between lists, ← and → fold and unfold, → goes to the tasks and ← brings you back.

Build 528

  • Assistants set up areas and sections New

Claude Code and Codex create and rename areas, add sections to projects, give a new task its deadline and finish projects. Each change shows in the chat and can be undone.

  • Deleting a project waits for you New

An assistant deletes a project or an area only after you press Apply in the chat, and undo brings it back with all its tasks.

Build 524

  • Plan the month on iPhone New

The month's weeks as a list with their hours, project results with how many weeks are left, and tasks without a week moved into a week with Move to...

Build 519

  • Long task names read in full Fixed

An open task's long name wraps onto more lines instead of hiding its start.

Build 517

  • Undo keeps notes with their project Fixed

Undoing the deletion of a project or an area puts its notes back in its folder, with their subfolders.

  • Delete from the project's menu New

The "···" menu after a project's title now deletes the project; ⌘Z brings it back.

Build 511

  • Plan the week on iPhone New

The week's days with their hours under a strip of seven: hold a task and drag it onto a day, or use Move to...; pick tasks from the month's plan and see how full each day gets.

Build 503

  • Right-click menus New

Right-click a task, a block, a meeting, a project, an area, a section or a project on the Year for its actions; deleting from a menu is undone with ⌘Z.

Build 498

  • Notes live in ALT New

Notes are kept by ALT like your tasks: no folders to pick, and they will reach iPhone with sync.

  • Import from Obsidian New

File → Import from Obsidian... brings the notes of your projects' folders; moved files are marked in Obsidian.

  • Export to Markdown New

File → Export Notes to Markdown... writes every note into a folder you choose.

  • Assistants read your notes New

Claude and Codex can list, read and edit a project's notes, as they do with tasks.

Build 481

  • Notes New

A Notes view next to List, Day and Week (⌘8): the notes folder of a project, an area or all areas as one outline you edit as in Workflowy.

  • Your files stay yours New

Notes are the same .md files Obsidian opens; ALT rewrites only the lines you edit.

Build 461

  • Day timeline Fixed

Short blocks show their time, the resize grip sits on the block's edge, and busy time can be drawn on any hour.

  • Undo Fixed

A task deleted by erasing its name comes back with its name. Undoing the assistant's change shows what you changed since.

  • Week and month Fixed

Pages turn without overlaps, and a dropped card settles from where you let it go.

  • Year counts Fixed

The Year counts top-level projects only, as the month does.

  • With a mouse Fixed

The Day fits the window when scroll bars are always shown.

Build 436

  • Tasks from the assistant New

A dot marks tasks the chat, Claude Code or Codex made or moved; OK over a list clears them.

  • Yesterday moves to today New

Unfinished tasks move to today by themselves. Review over the Day sends one to the week, off the day or marks it done.

  • What's New New

After an update ALT shows what changed. Earlier changes are in the ALT menu and Settings.

  • Version in Settings New

Settings shows the version and build, ready to copy.

  • A tidier year Fixed

Periods read the same everywhere as on the year ribbon, and a past year offers no new project.

Set a project's months on the year ribbon and see how full each month is.

  • Even progress rings Fixed

A project's progress fills its ring evenly, without a gap on one side.

In the Week each day scrolls in its own column under its date.

Build 344

⌘/ shows and hides the sidebar, ⌘J the chat.

  • A new day after midnight Fixed

The Day moves to the new date by itself after midnight.

Before in-app release notes

Until build 344, ALT had no release notes of its own. These are put together from the project's history, by date.

  • Today on iPhone and iPad New

iPhone opens on a Today tab with the day's timeline, and on iPad the day's list stands beside it. Drag a block's grip to change its length; the toast undoes it.

  • Write a task down on iPhone New

"+" writes a task down from any tab and reads its day and estimate from the text. In the Inbox, a swipe gives a task a day or a project.

  • Projects on iPhone New

Projects lists your areas and opens a project with its views; "+" makes an area, a project, or a project inside one.

  • Hours and busy time on iPhone New

Set the hours of the week or of one day, mark busy time, and long-press free time to plan a task there.

  • Claude Code and Codex create projects New

Claude Code and Codex can now create projects and write a task's notes.

  • A narrow window Fixed

A narrow window hides the chat, then the sidebar, instead of cutting them off, and brings them back as it widens.

  • Meetings from your calendars New

Meetings from the calendars you choose count as busy time on the Mac.

  • The keys of Things New

Task lists answer the keyboard shortcuts of Things, and ⌘1 to ⌘7 switch views from the View menu.

  • Dictate to the chat New

Dictate a chat message on the Mac. It is recognized on this device, in the language of the interface.

  • Finish early, get the time back New

  • A new icon New

ALT has its icon and logo: the Option key mark with a smooth bend.

  • Weeks at the edge of a month Fixed

A week that spans two months belongs to the month of its Thursday, in the Month, the weekly review, the chat and for Claude Code and Codex.

  • What's left of the day New

The Day's header says how many hours of open tasks are left, and the Week's header does the same for the week.

  • Undo brings it all back Fixed

⌘Z after moving a task to another day, week or month brings back its day, month plan and the slot it freed. Undoing a completion brings back its slots too.

  • Dates on grouped tasks Fixed

Grouped by sections, a task's row says when it is planned, such as "Today · 14:00-18:00".

  • Nested projects on the Year Fixed

A parent project without a period stands in its area, right above its nested project that runs this year.

  • The Day with time slots New

  • An AI chat on your own key New

The chat proposes changes to your year, month, week and day and shows what they do to your hours. Nothing changes until you press Apply, and every change can be undone.

  • Claude Code and Codex New

A local MCP server lets Claude Code and Codex read and change your plan, within the rights and scope you choose. Change History shows each batch and undoes it.
